● A wine that has a soul and which has captivated the national and international market to an extent that it is hardly seen on the Canary Islands

■ Matías i Torres Diego
Dry white from 100% Diego grapes
La Palma Protected Designation of Origin
What this wine tells us
A timid wine from a variety thus far little exploited on La Palma due to its unprepossessing features for winemaking. Nevertheless, the vintner has achieved a wine that has a soul and which has captivated the national and international market to an extent that it is hardly seen on the Canary Islands. Aromatically simple but at the same time as big as its bunches; on the palate, it is fleshy, with fresh grape flavor and almond undertones that make it pleasant without being sweet.
Its dancing partner
A must with grilled limpets.
Trivia
It comes from vines in a pine grove area that a couple of friends who are passionate about farming have persistently tried to restore for some time. Persistently, because in the vintage of 2009 the vineyard, among others, was buried by mudslides after heavy rainfalls. That’s why, at the moment, there is such a limited amount of this Bujariego (Diego) available, though that should change as the vineyard recovers.
