The island of La Gomera attracts one’s attention not only on account of the lush vegetation of the hilltops, its wild mountain landscape, and its numerous ravines, but also because in many areas the island’s scenery is a pleasingly balanced mixture of nature and human activity.

An excellent example is Tamargada, one of the best wine-growing areas on the island (famous along with the Chipude wines which, strangely, taste of rockrose flowers, and those from Taguluche, even though some islanders say that “they are very strong”). The gorges that surround the hamlet of Tamargada have been sculpted by its growers resulting in hills covered by vines at different heights in which nature and the hand of man are so intertwined as to be almost indistinguishable.

Pedro González Plasencia has his carefully designed, appealing, and cozy winery in this area. The surrounding estate combines traditional close-to-the-ground vine cultivation with the modern espalier technique, both supporting the white grape that is predominant on the island: Forastera Gomera.

With twice as much red grapes as white, all from ecological cultivation, he began producing very flavorful wines with a strong personality in 2010

But he has also planted some red Forastera vines in espalier on a southward facing estate in Alajeró, which he describes as “a dream estate.” With twice as much red grapes as white, all from ecological cultivation, he began producing very flavorful wines with a strong personality in 2010.
